About the Association

The Association of Iranian Non-Governmental Banks and Non-Bank Credit Institutions is a non-profit organization comprising non-governmental banks and non-bank credit institutions licensed by the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran and admitted to membership of the Association.

The Association enjoys independent legal personality, holds Iranian nationality, and operates nationwide. Its headquarters is located in Tehran.

Legal Scope of Activities and Objectives

The legal scope of activities and objectives of the Association includes the following:

Promoting coordination, standardization of banking practices, and cooperation among member institutions, with the aim of improving the quality of banking services and facilitating the adoption of modern banking methods in compliance with Islamic banking principles and the regulations of the Central Bank.

Enhancing coordination among members in the areas of training, professional skill development, and human capital supply, and cooperating with the Central Bank and other relevant authorities and institutions to expand banking services, conduct studies in monetary and banking fields, and other areas related to the Association’s activities. This also includes providing legal and advisory opinions on draft bills and legislative proposals concerning monetary and banking laws to relevant authorities, as well as joining similar domestic and international associations and institutions.

Supporting and defending the professional and collective rights and interests of members before judicial authorities and other competent legal bodies, either directly, as a representative of members, or through the appointment of legal counsel. This includes pursuing the resolution of common and collective issues faced by members, defending their shared interests before governmental, national, and judicial authorities, and representing members in disputes before judicial, administrative, regulatory, and public non-governmental bodies.

Acting as a mediator and arbitrator among members, including the appointment of arbitrators to resolve disputes or claims between members, or between members and third parties, subject to the agreement of the parties and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Undertaking any other transactions, actions, or activities necessary to achieve the legal objectives and functions of the Association.

History of the Association

Following the enactment of legislation permitting the establishment of non-governmental banks and the commencement of operations by several private banks, and in response to an institutional gap identified by the senior management of private banks at the time, the Association of Private Banks and Credit Institutions was established. The Association began its activities on July 1, 2004, with the participation of four banks and one credit institution.

Subsequently, the Association was registered as an employers’ professional association on February 16, 2005, under registration number 267, with the Department of Labor and Employers’ Organizations of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

In line with legal requirements, the Association was re-registered on March 12, 2015, under registration number 33593 and National Identification Number 14002947696, as a non-commercial, non-profit institution under the name Association of Iranian Non-Governmental Banks and Non-Bank Credit Institutions, with the Tehran Companies Registration Office.
